The Objective
OnePoll worked with a client on a Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) project to research viewpoints around the reintroduction of native animal species into England and Scotland.
The Research
Video interviews were conducted with 450 respondents, who lived within the qualifying area of woodland, namely a 20-mile radius. Interviewees were asked for their postcode, age and gender.
Respondents were then asked about their usage of the woodland, their viewpoints on the reintroduction of native animal species’ and what they thought would be the consequences of such.
They were also shown images of several animals and asked to identify the species in question.
The Result
The reintroduction of native animal species research revealed that only around a quarter of respondents could correctly identify the species they were shown. Happily, the majority of interviewees were open to the reintroduction of such species’, with almost two in five saying yes to any species and a similar amount saying yes, but to certain species’ only. Respondents were rather positive about the impact of such reintroductions, on the animal’s welfare, survival, on other species and biodiversity, with the majority being supportive in general.
