Following on from previous research ran by OnePoll in 2020, Neilson FS approached OnePoll to conduct a more in-depth piece of research analysing how funeral prices have been affected in recent years and unexpected costs associated with planning a funeral.
The main survey polled 1,549 UK adults who have helped plan a funeral between 2016-2021. A secondary Nationally Representative survey was conducted of 2000 UK adults. Within the main survey respondents were asked to recall the cost of individual elements of the funeral and the comparisons between burial and cremation funerals were made. Looking at industry standards, data was weighted and averages were calculated based on the respective base sizes of each answer option. Using this method, on average, a funeral cost £5,631. However, if including some additional send-off costs this average can increase to £7,500 or more.
During the analysis of the results, extensive collaboration was conducted with the client to make sure the results stood up to industry standards. Several sets of data tables were created as well as a merged executive summary using the results of both the main and secondary survey. Using direct comparisons from the 2020 research, several insightful graphs and charts were created to showcase the trends in funeral spends.
This executive summary was used to create the Funeral Costs report in collaboration with Oath Studio – https://www.britishseniors.co.uk/funeral-plans/funeral-costs-report-2021/
